ideas for artwork

I think we should do something with plants and nature. I know the twenty first century is supposed to be about robots and flying cars and crazy lazers. But i think it's going to quickly become very important that we preserve and blend nature into technology. It would be very easy as well to incorporate some sort of ivy, flowers or both to any structure or work of art we could create.

benjys ideas

I think my number one place is that empty empty empty empty spot near the parking lot/ entrance. It is so damn barren and there needs to be something there. A basic idea I've been playing around with is having a circular base that is also a bench and then having the actual sculpture sit on top of that. It should be a sculpture not easily climbed by punks, or me for that matter. I think as long as it is somewhat visually appealing, it doesn't have to be terribly intricate. It should have a lot of meaning and emphasis hidden within it in ingenious ways, so people are always discovering new things in it, or not.
If not that, my second choice would be to do a bridge over the retention pond. we could fill 'er up with water and make a shore of pebbles and take out the fence so it is pretty. We can then embellish the bridge in many different ways. Whether through incorporating random ideas within it, or having a timeline of some sort. There are many options for both of these and i'm excited to start working. i think.

Debra's initial ideas

Hey Gang!
For the sculpture, I really like the idea of having one main figure with different elements inside of it.  Because it needs to in part be 3-d, I don't think the whole thing should be.  I think it would be really cool it we emphasized certain areas with their depth, either by popping them out, or sinking them it.  I think that there are many different elements that make up the 21st century person, just there are so many different types of people, and so many different things that have shaped our culture.  I think it is a good idea to represent all of them because otherwise we would be over simplifying the 21st centure human.

Hallie's 21st Century Human Project Ideas

1.       Bridge over flood water retention area. On the bridge there would be cool carvings and at one end show the beginning of technology and the first inventions and then in the middle show inventions we have today, and then toward the end show that there are endless possibilities.
2.       At the trees and grass area I was thinking of a fountain to show the beginning of time and simplicity of technology and then the water would flow upward and the center column would have different technology ideas.
3.       At the west side concrete space I’m thinking of a space of modern looking benches where people can sit and socialize. Instead of resorting to the non face to face communication strongly a part of today’s society, it would revert back to older ways of life by socializing and having fun with people in a cool looking but open environment.
